Workshop at Bucharest, Romania, 27 May 2007
The CAPE-WP has organized a workshop to be held on 27 May 2007 in Salon A, JM Marriott Hotel starting from 09.00 - 12.00. The theme for this workshop is "What is CAPE/PSE - Do we need to redefine the area?". The workshop will consist of discussions with the objective of preparing a document that defines CAPE/PSE, lists the topics and themes covered by CAPE/PSE, lists overlaps of themes/topics with other WPs of the EFCE, lists the new/future opportunities for CAPE/PSE, and, how to advance/disseminate the ideas/results coming out from CAPE/PSE.
All CAPE-WP delegates and invited guests are welcome.

Workshop at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, 9 July 2006
The CAPE-WP organized a workshop on 9 July 2006 at in Room Alpspitze, Kongresshaus Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Richard-Strauss-Platz 1a, D-82467 with two invited speakers followed by a discussion. The theme for this workshop was "Status of CAPE methods and tools". The program for the workshop is given below.

Workshop at Barcelona, May 2005
A workshop on "SUSCHEM Technology Platform" and "Models and their exchange/use" was held on 29 May 2005 in Barcelona prior to the CAPE-WP business meeting and ESCAPE-15. It was attended by a large percentage of CAPE-WP delegates and some invited guests. On the SUSCHEM Technology Platform, after brief overviews were presented by Dr. W. Meier and Dr. T. Perris, a discussion took place on the question of the next steps and how the CAPE community can have a greater influence on the development of this platform. It was agreed that together with Dr. J. Kussi (CAPE-WP delegate and a member of the SUSCHEM Technology Platform committee), the current chaiman (Prof. R. Gani) and vice-chairman (Prof. D. Bogle) will prepare some initial suggestions and comments for changes to the SUSCHEM Technology Platform document. Also, Dr. Meier and Dr. Kusi will recommend that Professors Gani and Bogle are invited to future meetings of SUSCHEM Technology Platform.
The second part of the workshop was devoted to the question of "Models and their exchange/use". There were three speakers (Professor W. Marquardt, Professor H. Preisig and Dr. M. Pons) who gave their different views, after which a discussion took place on the issues raised by the three speakers. Some of the issues raised were the following: What role should CAPE/PSE play in the area of modelling? How can the CAPE community contribute to modelling, which is needed and practised everywhere? What are we modelling and are these models of general use? What computer-aided modelling tools are available and need to be developed? Is there a need for modelling standards, exchange and interface? What are the important modelling topics? Is CAPE/PSE addressing them?

The CAPE Recent Achievement Award
# The 6 Aug 2008.
Dr. Bertrand Braunschweig (IFP, France) & Dr. Michel Pons (CO-LaN, France) are the winners of the CAPE-WP Recent Innovative Achievements Award 2006 in recognition of their pioneering work related to the definition and maintenance of open interface standards for chemical engineering software. Dr. Braunschweig coordinated the two EU-funded CAPE-OPEN projects, was the chief architect in taking the project further and establishing the CAPE-OPEN interface standards for plug & play of chemical engineering software and the first president of CO-LaN for the first three years. Michel Pons has been responsible for keeping the ideas of CAPE-OPEN standards alive through the CAPE-OPEN Laboratories Network (CO-LaN) and is currently its chief technology officer. Because of their work, interfacing different software is now a reality.
The next call for nominations for the CAPE Recent Achievement Award will for 2010. The deadline for receipt of the nominations is March 2009. A template for the nomination document is available.
